To amend Public Law 99-338 with respect to Kaweah Project permits.

The bill would make two targeted changes to Public Law 99-338, which governs permits for portions of the Kaweah Project — an existing hydroelectric project in Tulare County, California. First, it would raise the maximum number of allowable permit renewals from three to seven. Second, it would strike the specific reference to "Southern California Edison Company" from the authorization language, broadening or clarifying who may hold those permits.

The bill would not restructure the Kaweah Project, alter its operations, or change any other terms of the underlying permit authority beyond the renewal count and the named-company reference.

The operators and permit holders of the Kaweah hydroelectric project in Tulare County, California, who would be eligible for additional permit renewals under the revised law. The Department of the Interior, which issues those renewals, would also be affected by the expanded authorization.

Without this change, permit holders for portions of the Kaweah Project would be limited to three renewals under the current law. Raising the cap to seven gives project operators a longer runway for continued operation under existing permits, reducing uncertainty about the project's future authorization and avoiding a more complex relicensing process.
